Wm. Jake Martie

Wm. Jake Martie, 76, of Elkville, passed away at 12:33 P.M., Friday, February 1, 2002 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Jake was a retired haul truck driver at the Captain Coal Mine. He had worked for 26 years at the Du Quoin Packing Co. He was an avid gardener. Jake was a member of the Elkville Baptist Church. He was a US Army veteran of W.W.II.
He was born January 24, 1926 at Elkville the son of William A. and Minnie (Holliday) Martie.
He married Janet M. Wilks on April 2, 1955 at Murphysboro and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Elkville, daughter- Janice Hindman and husband John of Elkville, son- Don Martie and wife Melody of Pinckneyville, sister- Lula M. Pinkerton of Elkville, grandchildren- Andrea Bruzan and husband Andrew, Shaun Cashion and wife Dawn, Anson Cashion, Nicole Hindman, Mike Hindman, Scott Martie, Matt Martie, great grandchildren- Sadie Cashion, Kadie Cashion, Ashton Bruzan, Morgan Cashion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, great granddaughter- Alexis Ellsworth.
Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 4, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Daryl Williams officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Hallidayboro Cemetery.
